4 Most Common Ways to Earn More Money Outside Your 9-5 Job

Let's talk about earning more money outside your 9 to 5 job. There are many ways to earn more income and build additional income streams. The 4 most common are taking extra hours/overtime at your current job, getting a second job, starting a side hustle, and investing.

Working extra hours at your current job or asking for overtime is probably the simplest and fastest way to start earning additional income. You can just ask your boss that you have now for more hours, and they'd probably give it to you if you're a good employee. The problem with this is that you can only work a certain number of hours in a day, we all only get the same 24 hours. You're also limited with how much you currently earn per hour at your job.

The second most common way to earn more money is to get a second job aside from your day job. You can be in the same industry you're in now, maybe paying a little more or a little less. Or you could try out a different industry than you're working in now, and you can learn more skills and possibly end up changing careers. But most people would probably start it as just a second part-time job until they learn the skills needed in the new job/industry. But as noted earlier, you are still limited by how many hours you can work in a day, and how much you can earn in an hour.

The third most common way to earn extra money outside your day job is to start a side hustle. This option is better than the first two for many reasons. You can start it around something you're good at, something you enjoy doing, your passion. You can build this skill into a side business and make money doing what you love. This will give you more control of your time and how much you earn. You can decide how much you want to charge for your product or service. And the best part about this option is that you might even build it up to a point where you're earing more than you are at your job, and you can decide to scale back your hours or quit entirely, and replace your full time income and job. The limits to the side hustle option are the limits of your imagination.

Another way to earn more money outside your job, and probably the easiest, is to invest and have your money working for you passively. I believe that everyone, no matter their income, should be investing. The most common way to invest is through bonds or the stock market, such as ETFs, Mutual funds, etc. And your investing for passive income, you don't need to do any of the work, you just sit back and let your money work for you. You can earn money through dividends, where the company pays you just for investing in it, or you can earn money through appreciation, where the stock goes up in value and is worth more than you bought it for, or both! And just like with the side hustle, eventually if you're earning enough passive income through your investments, you can replace your full time income and have the option to leave your job. That's called being retired, by the way.

So these are the four most common ways to earn more money outside your 9-5 job. Again, these are taking extra hours/overtime at your current job, getting a second job, starting a side hustle, or investing. You can do just one of these but I recommend a combination of a few.
